Good morning folks. I am going to share something with you here if you’ll indulge me for a few minutes. Last week I went on a bit of a rant about YouTube comments and the like and the people who make them. Essentially saying that the people who make these comments are nutless wonders who would never have the guts to say what they do, face to face.
I ran across a video today that to me, embodies the mentality of many of the voters in this country. I know my area (near Detroit) is filled with these people. Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, I’m not talking about race or anything like that, it’s the mentality that the government owes anybody anything. The cradle to grave mentality that keeps people on the government system and they’ll, seemingly, happily stay there. Please burn the 45 seconds it takes to view the video.
My view of this video and the person in the video is this. If she can turn off her soap operas for the length of time it takes for her to go to this ‘protest’ she can get off her lazy ass and get a job and pay for her own damn phone. Truth is, and I’ve seen many like her, she doesn’t want a job. Free goes a long way with these people, or the perception of free, right into the voting booth. That perception is, let someone else pay for it. That someone else is you and me, my friends. Free goes a long way and these people vote. I’m still waiting for someone to tell me why it takes a 1000+ page document that no one understands and most who voted for it, likely never bothered to read, to outline free healthcare. If I want to know why things are happening, I always say follow the money. Who stands to gain the most? It damn sure isn’t the citizens of these United States. Give her the free phone and that will shut her up for the next 4 years until the next face is up for election.
Nothing is Free. Not even us. My mother told me when I was 5 or 6, that even Santa Claus wasn’t Free. She said they had to Pay for the gifts left under the tree at Christmas. Yeah, mom never let us believe we could get something for nothing. That no one had to pay for it, somewhere in the chain.
I made my decision over 4 years ago who I would be voting against in this 2012 election cycle. I knew McCain wouldn’t win then and like the many in the country invested in a titanium plate to cover my rear for attempted reaming I saw coming for the next 4 years with who I knew then, would be the occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, DC. The man wasn’t qualified then, he isn’t qualified now. Please spare me the argument that somehow he is or was. He was elected for 2 reasons. His complexion and the previous 8 years. They could have run a trained donkey against McCain-Palin and he would have won. He has done nothing but campaign since he took office. Sadly, in this state, I already know my vote won’t count. In fact the only reason I’ll go to the polls at all is to vote against whatever new or renewed local taxes they want to shove down my throat.
I don’t really know if they ever were but elections are not about who is qualified for the job. It is about the ones who spend the most money, and promise the most free stuff. They might as well hand the free stuff out 50 feet from the polling place because, it’s the payoff, bought and paid for by the tax payers, and they vote.
Thanks for the post MTH…. You know about our journey these past few months with regards to Mr Ford and ALL that we have been thru….I am working hard on a daily basis to not allow the ANGER to consume me…. To stand by and watch YOUNG ABLE BODIED people have things handed to them w/o having even paid into the system just makes my blood boil while I fight for what little I can get for my seriously ill husband who worked for 45 years and YES..PAID into the system….and dont even get me started on those who ARE NOT registered to VOTE but still run their mouths about how our Country should be run and by whom…. If you truly care then become LEGAL and REGISTER..till then.. your opinion means NOTHING to ME…….
Hugs and Peace

We don’t discuss this in our house because it’s a sore point. A couple of years ago, my husband applied for his SS benefits. We’d been getting annual statements which spelled out what he could anticipate receiving. While we were in the middle of the paperwork process with the SS rep, she announced that his benefits had to be reduced by 60%, based on his law enforcement pension – in essence, he made “too much” – which is truly a relative term. This week, we were sent his 2013 Medicare package which detailed the increases in the premium for Part B as well as an increase for Part D prescriptions. We’re tightening our belts and it’s starting to pinch.
I understand that there is plenty of blame to go around and fingers could be pointed at folks on both sides of the aisle, but it’s incredibly frustrating when you do the right thing your whole life and find you’re not entitled to what you believed was yours.
A lot of people are in pain – we’re angry and scared – and I’m not sure if anyone is listening to us.
Empress… I SOOOOOOO know what you are going thru..feel and share your pain… SS Admin is a nightmare to deal with… SS has told me that Mr Ford is not entitled to Disability Benefits because back in 2003 when he was self employed, he was LATE paying his taxes..Which you know how high they are for being SE.. So SS in essence reduced his pay in by 14 K ….I am still fighting with them about this on the basis that even though they were paid late …THEY WERE PAID.. !!!!! and we paid interest and penalties on top of it…So as a result..mr Fords ss monthly benefit has been REDUCED by $180.00…..talk about PISSED OFF !!!!!
and FWIW…. I am LISTENING to you ….
LOVE YA..and Jer too….give him a BIG HUG….
BTW,,, PITA may have a job in Fayettville NC…. He is really excited…Say a prayer for him…He really needs this kick start in life….
Diva
I’m more than happy to deliver the hug. π
You know that you, Mr. Ford and PITA are always in my prayers.
THANKS EMPRESS…
Now…here’s a video that REALLY will blow your mind…Lots ..and I mean LOTS of folks here in Florida are LIVID about this….
If anyone remembers the show, Sanford and Son from the 70s… During part of a season while Redd Foxx was in contract negotiations or out sick, don’t know which, the character Grady WIlson was looking after things in the junk yard. On one episode, he received 2 SS checks, and spent them both. The dilemma of the episode was of course that he should have returned one of the checks. A rep from SS came to visit him and of course, he thought he was busted. The rep handed him a third check with the notion that he hadn’t received his first one. With me so far? His rational was, when he was working and paying into the system, his dollar was worth, a dollar. When they are giving it back to him little bits at a time, the dollar is worth a quarter. So, the way he saw it, he was entitled those 3 checks, AND, one more.
It was only a TV show but it spoke to something my 8th grade social studies teacher told me. Don’t count on SS because it likely won’t be there by the time you retire. This was 1978. I’ve never forgotten that and the more I see, the more I believe it.
So, maybe Al Gore’s lock box wasn’t such a bad idea, after all. π
mth, I hope you don’t mind my dragging this over here, but this the link to a post I wrote about the cell phone program.

You know it’s always welcome, Empress. That may have been one of the first posts I read here at The Farm.
Well then, for that alone, it was worth it. π
Great post today, MTH.
π thanks for reading Baroness.
Too bad the notion of “Paying Your Fair Share” – whatever THAT means – doesn’t coincide with “Receiving Your Fair Share”.
My family members have been declined benefits that they paid into and truly needed. Meanwhile other free spending government programs have sprung up to spout millions at special groups,, such as the alleged Green Industry. You know, the Industry that only survives due to government manipulation, both here and in Europe. In my state the *retired* government workers live much much better than the regular people still working in the private sector.
Too bad the notion of βPaying Your Fair Shareβ β whatever THAT means β doesnβt coincide with βReceiving Your Fair Shareβ.

See my response below π
My husband has never read a blog in his life, but he read this — you are his…and my….newest hero!! There are MANY of us out here who worked, saved, didn’t spend beyond our budgets and raised great kids who contribute to soceity in a good way….and now we are being punished for it. No one minds taking care of those who can’t take care of themselves, but we resent like hell taking care of people who are just lazy and want the government to take care of them. Anyway, right on and love your blog. Anyone not believing in the possibility of conspiracy theories: just wait…..you will.
π³ Thank you and your husband. π
I totally agree with everyone’s frustration. It is unfortunate the the abuser’s of the “system” like the videos above come out of the woodwork during election time and that more stories of those where the system has truly helped are never reported. I do some volunteer work with the disadvantaged and most are embarrassed that they have had to receive assistance or they’ve been brought up in the system and don’t know any other way. Scammers are everywhere, not just in government programs. If you want to end the system, get up and volunteer to help rather than watching cable news on a slow story day. You may actually find cases that warm your heart rather than becoming angry.
And, yes, the people in the video tick me off, too. Unfortunately, one bad apple spoils the bunch.
It isn’t the One bad apple the bothers me. It’s the Bunch of bad apples. How about requiring these people to help themselves for a change? I’m betting that is a CHANGE that is beyond HOPE. Those people that you help everyday, I am sure they are thankful for what you do but do you think they care Where that help comes from? I’m not attacking you with this by the way. Oh, and by the way. I turned off the cable news shows years ago.
My husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer with an initial prognosis of 12-18 months in January. He was 57 and had worked since age 19. Of course early SS retirement was filed, and due to the prognosis his ‘case’ was expedited. While in processing, the prognosis was changed to 3-6 months. A letter from the doctor was immediately forwarded to the case worker. A rapid response was received stating he was awarded early SS as of February 1st, but that the law stated there was a 5 month waiting period before the first check would arrive, so not until August. He of course immediately realized he would be deceased.. He was torn up that he could not provide me even 1 check before he passed. Heartbroken is a more apt word. All those years of contributing and not receiving a penny in return just added to his pain. The ‘system’ is beyond broken and frankly I hope it disintegrates in order for our grandchildren to have true options. Thank you for taking the time to post this and provide me a place to vent.
I have no issue with those whose values for how our country should be governed are opposite my own. I am beyond weary of those who cast a vote from emotions and not reading, listening to facts. Jefferson and Madison are my ideals, they disagreed vehemently, but their love for the country outweighed personal preferences. I literally pray it is not too late to find and then implement honest discourse amongst ourselves once again.
Edna.. warm hugs for the loss of your husband,, Please feel free to come and VENT here anytime you need to.. We are all friends here and share common bonds in this troubled world.. may your days be brighter …
Hugs and Peace
Diva
Edna, my heart just breaks for you. I don’t think that this is what our Founding Fathers imagined, either. My sentiments for us are the same as you conveyed in your last sentence. Go ahead and vent – we all need to do it sometimes.
That’s terrible. My mother chose the deferred option (65 instead of 63) and died 3 days before her 65th. Paid into it from the time she was 15.
Remember this chick ?/
The lottery winner who STILL collected WELFARE…..well…as the story goes…

I was actually thinking of her when I was writing today’s post.
Thank you Diva.
Got so into sharing my tale forgot to tell MTH the, “They could have run a trained donkey against McCain-Palin and he would have won,” as the British say, Brilliant. And to think of all the hours I wasted watching the pundits. lol
π …
I agree with you 100% MTH. Thanks for the post!
π ….
Agree! Excellent post, MTH. Funny that I actually remember the Sandford episode but can not remember my bank password! But seriously, I hear and understand each of your concerns and grievences. God save us all.
As long as you don’t think you were IN the Sanford and Son episode, you’re all good. I can’t remember my passwords half the time either. Maybe that’s a good thing π
Ha ha! I’m good. π
